Inspired by his roots in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, local entrepreneur Rich Crocker set out to open a fully custom-designed Mexican restaurant and tequila bar. The only missing piece? The artwork. Having collaborated with Rich previously on his other establishment, Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten, we had built a strong relationship, and he trusted us to bring his vision to life.
Rich shared his deep connection to Mexico, detailing its iconic regional art, culture, and history. With his guidance and creative freedom, we began crafting a cohesive design that honored those influences. We started with a large collage spanning the back wall of the main dining area, weaving in patterns and imagery that celebrated Mexican heritage. From there, we transformed the bathrooms with intricate traditional patterns and incorporated Mexican skull motifs into the bar design to reflect his logo.
The centerpiece of the project was a large-scale portrait of a traditional Mexican woman adorned in Día de los Muertos face paint and a traditional hat. By integrating elements from the patterns used throughout the murals, we tied the entire space together into a unified and balanced aesthetic.
Weeks later, we attended the private opening and saw the finished space alive with happy customers. Witnessing the vibrant atmosphere and the community’s excitement made this project unforgettable a true celebration of art, culture, and collaboration.
